GAA CLUB NOTES

Last Tuesday (20th) the Junior D team travelled to Barnaderg to play Killererin for Round 5 of the Junior D Championship. It was a great performance from our 5th adult team and they were competitive for much of the game, but unfortunately Killererin came out strong winners on a scoreline of Killererin 4-10 Corofin 2-5.

On Thursday the Junior team Caherlistrane in Corofin for the Semi-Final of Division 4B. It was a great game and a fantastic performance from the Juniors, however the were unable to overcome Caherlistrane as the scoreline finished up Corofin 1-10 Caherlistrane 1-12, goal from Shane Canavan. Well done to the Junior Players and Management for a great League campaign, it has filled us with optimism ahead of the championship.

The Senior, Intermediates and Junior Championship Groups were drawn early last week. The Juniors have been drawn alongside Mountbellew/Moylough, Tuam Stars, Annaghdown and Caherlistrane. The Intermediates have been drawn in Group 2 alongside Monivea-Abbey, Clifden and Caltra. The Seniors have been drawn in Group B alongside Salthill-Knocknacarra, Killannin, Bearna, Ouighterard and Caherlistrane.

While fixture details are yet to be confirmed, the Juniors start their Championship against Mountbellew/Moylough on the weekend of the 16th July, the Seniors are due to start their championship against Salthill-Knocknacarra on the weekend of the 30th July and the Intermediates are due to kick off their Championship against Caltra on the weekend of 13th August.

The Junior A game against Oranmore-Maree fixed for this evening (Monday, 26th) was postponed until next week, details to be confirmed.

The Seniors play their Division 1 Final against Tuam Stars on Friday in Tuam Stadium at 8:00pm and the Intermediates play their Division 3A Final against Oughterard on Sunday in Pearse Stadium at 1:45pm. Best of luck to the Players and Management ahead of their Finals, hopefully we will be celebrating silverware by the end of the weekend! The Junior A team host St, Michael’s in Corofin pitch on Saturday at 7:00pm for Round 5 of the Junior A Championship North.

Hard luck to the Galway Seniors on Sunday who were narrowly beaten by Mayo in Pearse Stadium in the Preliminary Quarter-Final of the All-Ireland Football Championship. Well done to Bernard Power, Dylan McHugh and Ian Burke who represented the Club on the national stage with distinction during the Connacht & All-Ireland Championships.


LGFA CLUB NOTES

On Friday the Junior team played Claregalway in Knockdoemore for Round 2 of the Coen Cup. The ladies took their scores very well and ended the game with a 4-point cushion, Corofin 3-09 Claregalway 4-02. They then travelled to Oranmore to play Naomh Mhuire for Round 3 on Monday evening and it was an emphatic win for the girls with a final scoreline of Corofin 9-09 Naomh Mhuire 0-12.

The Seniors travel to Dunmore on Wednesday to play Dunmore MacHales at 7:15pm in their Coen Cup 1st Round. Best of luck to the Players and Management.

The Galway Seniors beat Tipperary on Sunday in Templetuohy for Round 2 of the All-Ireland Senior Championship Group 4. The game finished Galway 4-10 Tipperary 3-04 and the win secures the Group top spot for Galway. Karen Connolly, Leanne Coen (0-1), Tracey Leonard (1-2) and Roisin Leonard (0-2) all started the game. Well done ladies!


UNDERAGE

Th U-17 Boys got their Galway ‘A’ North Championship underway with a game against Claregalway in Knockdoemore on Sunday morning. It was a very well contested game with both side taking some great scores, resulting in 5 goals scored in total between the two teams. Claregalway ended the game with a two point winning marging as the game finished Claregalway 2-13 Corofin 3-08. Round will see our boys host Dunmore MacHales in Corofin on Sunday, 9th July at 10:30am.

The U-12 Girls Blue have qualified for their Division 2 Cup Final against Loughrea on the 9th of July. The U-12 Girls Green team have qualified for their Division 6 Shield Final also on the 9th July. The U-12 Yellow team played their Division 4 Cup Semi-Final last Friday in Oranmore against Naomh Mhuire. It was a fantastic, spirited game to watch with both teams giving 100% to earn their place in the final. Unfortunately, Naomh Mhuire were able to find a few crucial score in the final quarter to finish the game as winners.

The U-14 girls travelled to Sligo for the Donal Healy Memorial Cup, hosted by St Mary’s Sligo. A panel of 35 girls took part to qualify from the group stages for a Semi-Final with eventual winners, Tuam-Cortoon. Míle buíochas to St Mary’s for hosting a fantastic event. We are hugely grateful for the opportunity to take part.

A reminder that the Nursery Group continues to train in Belclare on Saturdays from 10:15 – 11:15am. This training is for boys and girls born in 2017 and 2018 only.
