GAA CLUB NOTES

On Thursday the Junior D team hosted Kilconly in Belclare for Rd2 of the Junior D Football Championship North. It was an outstanding team performance from the lads that ended in a draw, Corofin 2-8 Kilconly 1-11. Goals from Brian Costello and Julian Fouere. It’s brilliant to see the Club’s 5th Adult Mens team so competitive.

On Friday the Senior team were away to Tuam Stars for Rd5 of Div1. We started the better of the two teams and went in at the break leading 1-11 to 0-4, goal from Rory Donnellan. The second half saw Tuam bring more physicality to the game but the Corofin players were able for the challenge. They finished on a winning scoreline of Corofin 1-15 Tuam Stars 0-16.

On Saturday the Intermediates were away to Oranmore-Maree for Rd5 of Div3A. It was a tight game with both teams trading scores throughout. The game ended in a draw on Corofin 2-14 Oranmore-Maree 4-8. However, it was a display of great character from the lads, after conceding a late goal they responded with the equalising point in added time. Goals from Colin Kelly and Glen McHugh.

The Junior A team got their 2023 Championship North campaign underway on Monday evening when they hosted Monivea-Abbey in Corofin. They were competitive through to the end but were unable to overcome Monivea-Abbey as the game finished Corofin 1-7 Monivea-Abbey 1-15. Goal from Graham Murphy.

This Wednesday the U19’s are away to Dunmore MacHales at 7:30pm for the North A League Semi-Final. Best of luck to the Players and Management.

On Sunday the Galway Seniors retained their Connacht Championship title as they beat Sligo in McHale Park with a healthy score of Galway 2-20 Sligo 0-12. Dylan McHugh opened the scoring for Galway, while Ian Burke contributed to the scoreboard with 2 fine points. Dylan and Ian started the game for Galway as Bernard Power was named in the substitutes. Well done lads!

LGFA CLUB NOTES

On Monday evening the Junior B team played Dunmore MacHales in Belclare in Round 6 of Division 5. The girls played some brilliant football and ran out comfortable winners with a scoreline of Corofin 2-19 Dunmore MacHales 1-6, goals from Louise Reilly and Rachel Burke.

On Sunday the Galway Seniors lost out to Mayo in the Connacht Championship Final in McHale Park, Castlebar. They had a strong finish to the first half and showed character in the 2nd half to again come from behind, thanks in part to a goal from Leanne Coen, but Mayo were able to pull away in the closing stages, finishing on a scoreline of Mayo 3-13 Galway 2-9. Leanne Coen and Tracey Leonard started the matched with Roisin Leonard and Karen Connolly named on the bench. Leanne scored a goal, Tracey scored 2 points (1 free) while Roisin came off the bench to score a point (1 free) also.

UNDERAGE

The County U15 Boys Féile kicked off on Wednesday evening with the Club having a team in Div1 and Div4.

The Div4 team narrowly lost out to Monivea-Abbey in Round 1 on the Wednesday and on the Thursday they lost out to Oranmore-Maree and Tuam Stars despite a gigantic effort from the players and displaying some great skill.

The Div1 team lost out to Moycullen on Wednesday evening but rallied on Thursday to beat Claregalway by a single point. They finished the group with a great win over Salthill-Knocknacarra. They lads qualified for the Final in Tuam Stadium on Saturday evening against St Mary’s of Athenry. Again the boys played some fabulous football, however, the final result was a win for St Mary’s with the scoreline at Corofin 0-7 St Mary’s 3-3. Well done to all Players and Management.

The U12 girls had another good week with Rd3 fixtures of their leagues. On Tuesday the Blue team beat Kilkerrin-Clonberne, on Wednesday the Yellow team beat St Fursey’s and on Saturday the Green team narrowly lost to Naomh Mhuire. Well done to the girls, it’s a great year so far for this group of girls.
