On Sunday the Galway Seniors played Mayo in the Allianz Division 1 NFL Final in Croke Park. Any game against our neighbouring rivals is always a well fought contest and the final on Sunday was no exception. Padraic Joyce’s team played some great football but unfortunately Mayo finished out the game with the better rub of the green and a 3 point advantage at the final whistle, Galway 0-11 Mayo 0-14. Dylan McHugh started the game while Bernie Power and Ian Burke were named on the bench.
The Club wish to congratulate the Galway panel on a great League campaign that has provided much optimism and excitement ahead of the Connacht and All-Ireland Championships. We are particularly proud of our Club players who played their part in the Allianz League campaign; Bernie Power, Dylan McHugh and Ian Burke.
LGFA CLUB NOTES
Last weekend saw the opening rounds of all League Divisions in Galway. On Thursday the Junior C team played the 1st round of Division 7 away to Claregalway. The girls battled well against a strong Claregalway team, while they kicked some great points through the game, they were not able to recover from a 4-goal-haul from Claregalway. Final score Corofin -10 Claregalway 4-5.
On Saturday evening the Senior’s hosted Moycullen in their opening round of Division 1. A shaky start saw Moycullen lead at half-time but a boal blitz in the second laf saw the girls close out the game as eventual winners. Final score Corofin 4-5 Moycullen 1-11. Goals from Leanne Coen (x3) and Amy Cooley.
On Sunday morning the Junior B’s got their Division 5 underway when they hosted Salthill-Knocknacarra in Belclare. It was a beautiful morning for football and the footballed matched the conditions. It was a closely contested game throughout but the girls pulled away in the second half with a flurry of superbly taken scores. Final scoreline Corofin 5-11 Salthill Knocknacarra 2-7. Goals from Louise Reilly (x2), Heather O’Leary and Rachel Burke (x2)
