GAA CLUB NOTES

On Saturday the Seniors hosted Killannin in Corofin Round 2 of their Division 1 campaign. It was a lovely evening for football in Corofin and a good crowd was in attendance. Despite conceding two goals in the first half, the lads kept the scoreboard moving and went in 3 points behind at half-time. They hit their purple patch in the second half and turned the 3 point deficit into a 5 point lead at one stage. Despite a late rally from Killannin and a third goal, our lads held on for the win; Corofin 1-19 Killannin 3-10. Goal from Dylan Canney

On Sunday morning the Juniors hosted Tuam Stars in Corofin Round 2 of their Division 4B campaign. Another fine morning for football in the village and neither team disappointed with very exciting game. Corofin started the strongest and had a goal from Gavin Kelly in the first half to send them int the break ahead by 5 points with the score Corofin 1-8 Tuam Stars 0-6. The second half really opened up with Tuam scoring two goals of their own and Finn McIntyre scoring our own second goal. There was a flurry of points from both sides with the lads holding on for the win, Corofin 2-16 Tuam Stars 2-14.

Later on Sunday, the Intermediates were away to Headford for their Round 2 fixture of Division 3A. Th intermediates started very strong, kicking some fine scores and led comfortably at half-time with the scores at Corofin 0-12 Headford 1-2. The second half continued much the same but with goals added to the mix from Cian Murphy, Matthew Cooley and Michael Lundy. Final score Corofin 3-21 Headford 1-4.

On Wednesday (this evening) the U19 team commence the defence of their County Championship when they host Monivea-Abbey in Corofin at 6:45pm. Best of luck to the players and management team for the year ahead.

On Sunday the Galway Seniors played the final round of their Allianz League game against Kerry in the Pearse Stadium. It was a fine game of football, a repeat of last year’s All-Ireland final but thankfully the result went Galway’s way this time with the scores finishing at Galway 1-13 Kerry 0-14. Bernard Power and Dylan McHugh started the game and put in two very fine performances. The win left Galway 2nd in the League, only behind Mayo on score difference.

They will play Mayo in the Division 1 League Final next weekend in Croke Park and the club wish our Club players involved the very best of luck for the final.

LGFA CLUB NOTES

Last Sunday Galway Seniors played their final round of their Lidl NFL against Kerry in Tuam Stadium. It was a tight game throughout with Galway kicking some fine scores, only to lose out by the slimmest of margins in the end. The game finished Galway 0-17 Karry 3-11. Karen Connolly and Leanne Coen started the game with Tracey Leonard coming on for Leanne Coen in the second half. Leanne and Tracey both scored a point each.

Both teams will play each other again for the Division 1 League Final on 15th April in Croke Park. We wish all Club players in the panel the very best of luck.

Thanks to all the coaches involved for facilitating and encouraging the use of Irish during the training session.
