GAA CLUB NOTES
On Saturday the Intermediates played Kilkerrin-Clonberne in Milltown for their Intermediate Championship Relegation Round 2. It was a difficult first half for the lads as they didn’t register a score before the break while Kilkerrin-Clonberne tagged 6 points on the scoreboard. The second half was much different as the lads registered 10 points but unfortunately it was not enough to close the first half gap. The game finished Corofin 0-10 Kilkerrin-Clonberne 1-13.
On Sunday the Senior team played Tuam Stars in Tuam Stadium for the Quarter Final of the Senior County Championship. It was a much anticipated match with our neighbours and rivals. It was a hotly contested game but, despite a 1st half black card for Gavin Burke, it was played in good competitive spirit. The teams went into the half-time break level on 5 points each. The second half continued the same with neither team able to put any daylight between the other on the scoreboard. In the final quarter the lads were able to stretch out to a 2-point lead and thankfully they were able to hold on for the final whistle. Final scoreline Corofin 0-11 Tuam Stars 0-09. The Seniors will play Milltown next in the Semi-Final, details not confirmed at the time of submitting notes.
UNDERAGE
The James Collins memorial blitz was played in Belclare on Sunday morning. Many thanks to Salthill-Knocknacarra and Doora Barefield for supporting the blitz. James was a great clubman and official, and was ever present during the glory days of the 90s. We remember him fondly, always.
SYMPATHY
The club offers its sympathy to the families and friends of the following who have died recently:
